What is shared hosting and how does it work?
Shared hosting means your website shares a physical server with other websites. Each account gets its own isolated resources (CPU, RAM, disk) but uses the same hardware. VillageHosting caps each server at 50 accounts maximum — far fewer than industry standard — which means faster performance and better reliability for everyone.
How many websites can I host on shared hosting?
It depends on the plan. Sapling supports 1 website. Grove supports up to 10 websites. Orchard supports unlimited websites. All plans include the same core features — more websites is the primary upgrade reason.
Will I be throttled if I get a traffic spike?
Spike traffic is handled gracefully by LiteSpeed's page cache — most visitors never hit PHP at all. We only throttle if you sustainably consume more than 1 vCPU or 1GB RAM for extended periods. In that case, we email you first and suggest upgrading to VPS before any throttling happens.
What control panel do you use?
We use cPanel, the industry-standard control panel. It includes Softaculous (60+ one-click app installers), phpMyAdmin, file manager, email management, DNS management, SSL management, and a resource usage monitor. cPanel knowledge transfers to any host, so you're never locked in.
Do you offer a free domain with shared hosting?
Grove and Orchard plans include one free .com or .in domain for the first year. Sapling does not include a free domain. You can point any domain you already own to your hosting for free — we help you update DNS.
Can I use SSH with shared hosting?
Yes. JailShell (restricted SSH) is available on all plans. You can run git, composer, wp-cli, npm (for builds), and Python scripts. You cannot use sudo or install system packages — that's what VPS is for.
How do backups work? Can I restore a single file?
Backups run automatically every night. Sapling keeps 7 days, Grove keeps 30 days, Orchard keeps 60 days. You can restore from cPanel at any time — either the entire account, a specific database, or a single file. Restore time is typically under 5 minutes.
Is email hosting included?
Yes. All plans include real IMAP/POP3/SMTP email accounts (not just forwarders). Grove+ includes 25 mailboxes. Webmail via Roundcube is included. SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records are set up automatically to maximise deliverability.
What PHP versions are supported?
We support PHP 7.4, 8.0, 8.1, 8.2, and 8.3. You can run different PHP versions on different domains from a single cPanel account. Switch versions in one click with no downtime.
Do you support WooCommerce and eCommerce sites?
Yes. LiteSpeed's page cache has native WooCommerce support — cart and checkout pages are correctly excluded from cache while product pages are fully cached. For high-traffic WooCommerce stores (10K+ orders/month), we recommend Managed WordPress or VPS.
How does your free migration work?
Open a ticket, give us cPanel login or SSH credentials to your old host, and we'll handle everything — files, databases, email accounts, DNS records, SSL certificates. We migrate at night (2am–5am IST) to minimise any disruption. Zero downtime for most migrations. Zero cost.
What is your uptime SLA and what happens if you miss it?
Our SLA is 99.99% uptime, which equals less than 53 minutes of downtime per year. If we fall below this, we credit your account automatically — you don't need to raise a ticket. Credits are applied at 5× the per-minute cost of downtime.
Is there a money-back guarantee?
